From 27th October 2009 - 31st January 2010 Exhibition Alfonso X El Sabio (The Wise) Murcia City, Spain
If you are visiting Murcia city before the end of January 2010 a visit to the Alfonso X exhibition should be included in your itinerary.
This exhibition is about the influential 12th century Spanish king Alfons X, nickname the Wise One or the Learned, because of his establishment as the Castillian Spanish as a language of learning, Latin and Arabic was prior to that. He also founded universities including Toledo.
From the beginning of his reign, Alfonso employed Jewish, Christian and Muslim scholars at his court, primarily for the purpose of translating books from Arabic into Castilian, which had the effect of fixing the forms of the Spanish language.
With his Father in Law Jamie 1 The Conqueror he was fundamental in "reclaiming" the Region Murcia, which includes Caravaca de la Cruz.
His father was King Ferdinand III, who is now a Spanish saint. For more information see the link below.
